Making statements on the occasion of the 37th Tax Week celebrated this year, Revenue Office Director Demirbağ said that throughout the week they would visit taxpayers and directly listen to the demands and suggestions coming from the field. Emphasizing that tax is a fundamental element in financing public services, Demirbağ stated that fulfilling tax obligations in a timely and complete manner contributes to the sustainability of many public services, from infrastructure to education, and from health to transportation. He drew attention to the fact that strengthening public tax awareness directly affects the quality of public services.
Chairman of the Board Halil Balık, expressing his satisfaction with the visit, stated that tax is the state's most fundamental and sustainable source of revenue and that a healthy economic structure is possible with a fair, transparent and sustainable tax system. Noting that tax awareness is higher in developed economies, Balık said that this is among the indicators of countries' level of development.
In his speech, Balık also emphasized the great importance of registering the economy and combating informal activities effectively, stating that the informal economy and employment harm both public finances and businesses that fulfill their obligations regularly.
