Announcement to Our Members on Discount Sale Advertisements
Dear Member,
In the official letter sent to the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB) by the General Directorate of Consumer Protection and Market Surveillance of the Ministry of Trade, it is stated that inspections and audits carried out within the scope of consumer complaints found that discount sale advertisements were not conducted in accordance with the legislation and that this has caused consumer grievances.
In this context, the Regulation on Amendments to the Regulation on Commercial Advertising and Unfair Commercial Practices entered into force on 1 August 2026. In line with this regulation, it is important that the advertising and promotional activities carried out by businesses be brought fully and completely into compliance with the provisions of the legislation in force.
In particular, in advertisements and promotions relating to discount sales, practices that may mislead consumers must be avoided, price information before and after the discount must be presented in accordance with the legislation, and all advertising content must be prepared within the framework of the relevant regulations.
It is announced that administrative sanctions may be imposed under paragraph twelve of Article 77 of the Consumer Protection Law No. 6502 on advertisements and promotions containing elements contrary to the legislation.
So that our members do not face any administrative sanctions and consumer grievances are prevented, we kindly request that they review their discount sales campaigns and all advertising and promotional activities in line with the current legislation and ensure the necessary compliance without delay.
The official letter sent by the Ministry of Trade is attached for your information.
This is respectfully announced for your information.
