Announcement on the Certificate of Free Sale for Exports to Kenya
Pursuant to the letter forwarded to our Chamber by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye;
Reference:
a) Our letter dated 26.02.2026 and numbered 2915
b) Letter of the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Türkiye dated 24.03.2026 and numbered E-84261457-590-00120308392
Reference letter (a) stated that, before obtaining a certificate of conformity for exports to Kenya, the certificate of free sale to be obtained from the relevant bodies must be presented to the organisations authorised to carry out pre-shipment inspection and to the Kenya Customs Administration.
Pursuant to reference letter (b), according to information received from the Office of the Trade Counsellor at the Embassy in Nairobi, the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has published a new implementation guide on the matter.
According to the guide, a sample of which is attached, a certificate of free sale is required for the following products:
- Food products intended for human and animal consumption
- Cosmetic and personal care products
- Children's toys
- Electrical and electronic products
- Fertilisers and soil conditioners
In addition, the certificate in question will be required where there is no Kenyan standard, equivalent international standard or national standard of the exporting country relating to the product. If any of the existing standards is available, conformity may be demonstrated by a certificate of conformity issued under the pre-shipment inspection programme instead of a certificate of free sale.
Submitted for the information of our members concerned.
This is announced to our members with due emphasis.
